“Blushing Joy” 18×24″ Acrylic on canvas.
It has been super warm weather for December this week and so I wanted to paint rather than do any winter crafts while it is fast drying weather!

I was super inspired by the sunset colors during our dessert Thanksgiving trip this year and knew I wanted to paint them once we got home (I brought plein air painting supplies but it was so hot and so cold so fast I opted to store the memories and wait on the actual painting).

But color being my primary inspiration can tricky when working on harmonizing a composition because as much as I love color, it is only one small part of a painting.

More than planning out the structure however, I wanted it to have a fresh and vibrant feeling like a sunset appearing. So, I went with a very impressionist style. I used only two brushes: 1 very large filbert/mop and 1 medium angle. I tried a more wet on wet style than I would usually do to help with getting interesting surprises from the colors mixing on the canvas.

I want to let it dry and spend a little more time defining the foreground bushes and little flowering plants that we loved playing bocce ball in the midst of while we were there. But other than that, I am going with it being a faster more lively painting and painting process.

Here’s where it’s at for today! xx
